A Healthier Start

Since my birthday is in December, The Hubs always has the horrible task of trying to surprise me twice in one month with gifts. He always does an amazing job, but this year he went all out. He discovered my wishlist on Amazon! I don’t know about you, but I save a lot of stuff to my wishlist that I read about and want to try, in addition to thinks I’m pining for.

One of my “want to try” items was the Dash Rapid Egg Cooker. I love a good egg salad sandwich on fluffy white bread, as does my toddler who chants “eggies!” whenever she sees one. My problem is I invariably always under-cook them or forget to add something to the water to make them easier to peel.

Neat little package!

I will not lie – I was so excited when I got this for my birthday!!! It has gotten use at least once a week since we got it. I love that all its parts fit neatly inside the dome, without a struggle. It is stupid easy to use and we have been thrilled with both hard boiling as well as using the omelette pan to make some quick cheesy eggs for my toddler. For hard boiling, it’s as easy as water, prick the eggs, turn on, and done! My mom thought it was so cool when she came to visit for Christmas that we ordered one for next-day delivery from Amazon Prime as a last minute gift for her. You CANNOT MISS the alarm that tells you they’re done, even when the TV is on or the toddler and dog are running around making noise.

Cleanup is super easy to do. The water is all evaporated, so I simply dry off all the parts and once the heating plate is cool, it all goes back together and into the cabinet! They recommend cleaning mineral deposits that build up off the bottom with a vinegar/water solution. I don’t know about you, but my vinegar bottle is HUGE and lives in the basement usually, but I do have my favorite Four Monks Citrus Mint Scent Cleaning Vinegar under the kitchen sink (only green cleaning products under my sink and within toddler reach these days!).

Ready for cleaning!

Even after a month of use, there wasn’t much to clean off – just some deposits on the outside edges of the plate. I sprayed a little bit directly on the areas and let it sit for a minute or two while I put other things away in the kitchen. I kid you not, one easy swipe around the whole plate with a towel and voila! Gleaming and good as new!

Sparkly clean!

One of the reasons I’m enjoying this so much is that I read an article recently about how an egg a day is perfect for little growing brains, so the fact that my toddler chants joyously about “eggies” and loves them is a good thing. Also, I know I need to eat healthier. Every time I go to eat something, the little one wants at least a bite. I’m pretty sure she’s going to be my conscience, because when you have little hands signing “want” at every morsel you consume, it makes it easy to make healthier choices. I don’t want her eating a candy bar or cheddar sour cream chips, so I can’t do that as much either now.

So if you’re looking for an easy way to get a little bit healthier in this New Year, and you love “eggies” then check it out!
